Zelk, Joseph

Dr. Zelk is part of an interdisciplinary sleep disorders practice, aptly named Sleep Medicine Group. The practice has a focus on home sleep diagnostics, dental sleep medicine and behavioral sleep medicine. Dr. Zelk became interested in sleep disorders in 2000. He was intrigued by the dearth of understanding in medicine of the importance of restorative sleep and its impacts on health and longevity. Sleep Medicine Group has been a leader in mandibular advancement therapy for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea since 2005. This understanding of alternatives lead to innovations in hybrid CPAP/OA therapy and treatments for patient's with OSA unable to tolerate conventional CPAP or BIPAP.

Dr. Zelk is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice who holds both a CBSM and DBSM certification. He has undergone Sleep Medicine training at the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine and Polysomnography. He has completed a residency in Sleep Disorders Medicine at the VA Hospital/OHSU in Portland, Oregon. He has also completed a mini-fellowship in Dental Sleep Medicine and mandibular advancement device fabrication and case management. He has aspirations to improve access to myofunctional treatment for children to allow for improved airway development and prevention of sleep disordered breathing. He believes behavioral sleep medicine is the cornerstone to functional medicine and improved QOL.
