I am a licensed clinical psychologist with training in neuropsychology and health psychology. My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches. My practice specializes in anxiety, depression, OCD, and related disorders. Sleep, nutrition, and movement are standard components of my intake and treatment process; there is robust evidence that all are linked with mental health. In response to my observation that insomnia is undertreated in mental health settings despite the existence of a highly effective therapy, I pursued continuing education in CBT-Insomnia (CBT-I) to allow me to offer this important service. While insomnia is a common comorbidity in anxiety and mood disorders, it is often viewed as a symptom rather than a separate, treatable condition. When addressed, many providers still prescribe "sleep hygeine" strategies that are questionably effective at best. Given the adverse physical and mental health effects of insomnia and the efficacy of CBT-I, it is important to me that I assess and treat insomnia (and make appropriate referrals for other sleep-related issues), either when it is part of a more complicated clinical profile or in isolation as a primary diagnosis.
