Details

Dr. Nota is a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts. Dr. Nota has expertise treating obsessive-compulsive and related disorders and anxiety disorders using cognitive behavior therapy. He engages in a program of clinical and translational research focusing on the intersection between sleep, circadian rhythms, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Nota’s research has specifically examined the relation between sleep, circadian rhythms, and anxiety; and information-processing constructs (e.g., attention, response inhibition) that may be affected by treatments for obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorders or sleep disorders.

During his graduate studies with Dr. Meredith Coles at Binghamton University, Dr. Nota specialized in the study and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and focused his research on disruptions in arousal and circadian rhythm systems. His team was among the first to probe the relations between physiological and psychological processes associated with OCD/anxiety disorders and disruptions in sleep and circadian rhythms. He also received adjunctive training through collaborations with Dr. Katherine Sharkey at Brown University. Working on this line of research since 2011, Dr. Nota has made numerous peer-reviewed contributions to this literature and presented his work at national conferences.

Currently, Dr. Nota continues this work at McLean Hospital's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Institute as part of the Office of Clinical Assessment and Research. He runs a group at the OCD Institute applying CBT-I principles in this specialized treatment setting. He has also delivered similar workshops at the International OCD Foundation's annual conference and as part of the OCD Massachusetts educational programming. He also consults with treatment teams at the OCD Institute to address sleep disturbances that cause interference and distress to patients taking part in this program.

Dr. Nota is the president and founder of Overbrook Counseling Services, which is a private psychology practice operating in the Metrowest area of Boston and via Telehealth. As part of this practice, he sees individual patients seeking cognitive-behavioral treatment for obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, anxiety disorders, and sleep disorders.
