Dr. Christi Ulmer is a clinical health psychologist with more than 16 years of experience in the field of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. For the past 16 years, Dr. Ulmer has treated Veterans with complex sleep problems using both individual therapy and group-based interventions, and has provided BSM services to clients through her private practice. Dr. Ulmer was a co-chair of the workgroup to develop clinical practice guidelines for the VA and DOD for the treatment of insomnia and sleep apnea. She also served as a consultant on the Veterans Affairs dissemination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTI); providing training to mental health providers across the Veterans Affairs healthcare system. As faculty in the Durham VA psychology training program, Dr. Ulmer trained interns and doctoral level psychologists in behavioral sleep medicine. Dr. Ulmer is an assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center and Durham VA Center of Excellence in Health Services Research. Her resesearch is focused on the adverse health consequences of untreated sleep disorders, developing strategies to increase patient access to behavioral sleep medicine, and integrating behavioral sleep medicine into primary care and specialty clinics.
