Dr. Yamasaki is an expert at treating anxiety disorders, and is happy to now effectively treat insomnia and nightmares. For those presenting with sleep problems, she conducts a full initial evaluation of sleep and medical history, and then provides CBT-I as a course of treatment separate from the treatment of anxiety. She often recommends that the sleep be treated first, as this helps with stability and improvement overall. Bright light is available for loan for cases in which there is indication of a strong night owl tendency.

Previous CBT-I and behavioral sleep medicine training includes seminars with Colleen Carney, Ph.D. and Michael Perlis, Ph.D. (beginner and advanced seminars), as well as several months of shadowing Julio Mendoza, Ph.D. at Penn State Health Sleep Research and Treatment Center in Hershey, PA.

For the past 10 years I have been practicing as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist supporting individuals, couples, and children in mental health and relational concerns. My main modality is CBT and ACT. I also use EMDR to help clients process trauma. I am the founder of Women's Therapy Institute in Palo Alto, California. My interest in sleep began 8 years ago, starting with my own sleep issues after child birth. After several twists and turns (and a whole lot of stubbornness), I turned to CBT-I. I am a clinician turned consumer. I hated CBT-I as a consumer, and learned to love it because how effective it is.  I am a member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine (SBSM), and trained in CBT-I through the University of Pennsylvania.  I am currently working on a book exploring why women can't sleep well and what to do about it.
